In several places across the nation, the increase in precipitation has started to cause flooding. From northern Utah to the plains of the Mississippi river there are many levees and dams that are opening up the flood gates trying to relieve the pressure from the incredible amount of water that is rushing down stream.
In Utah, many organizations are working to create many different runoff pipelines as well as sand bagging in order to keep the water from going into homes and main streets. In the Mid-west, many large networks of commerce are threatened. The large suppliers of oil to many companies may have to shut down. Some local people created their own levees to protect homes and farms from being underwater because of the need to release the water that is flowing swiftly down to avoid flooding New Orleans. The people are not the only ones evacuating the area, but the animals are too. They have left the area knowing that the flood tide is moving forward.
In the past, when this area flooded, the flow of the Mississippi river actually changed. The corp of engineers is trying to avoid this and are working hard on the levees and other ways to redirect the flow of the water. One thing is for certain, when it rains it pours.
