Errant drivers were in for a treat in Hastings where public authorities were too busy tackling the closure of emergency lanes and fire vehicles lanes to bother about towing vehicles that violated the emergency parking restrictions applicable during snowstorms.
The administration in Hastings was forced to call off all but two snow ploughs from the road. This was because of the combination of high wind and snow storm like conditions led to numerous problems. This only meant that the work for the department in charge of clearing the snow off the roads after the storm has just become bigger.
Normally, the vehicles and equipment are used throughout the snowstorm to ensure that roads are cleared as quickly as possible. Even then, it takes about eight to ten hours before the roads are completely cleared off of snow. With the administration forced to remove all vehicles apart from the two used for emergency services, the process is only going to become complicated and take longer.
There is also a worry that the region will run out of its budget to take care of snow and other related expenses. However, administration allayed fears when it pointed out that the budget turns over at the end of December. This means that the expenses in the month of January are effectively a part of the next year’s budget. In such a scenario, the administration is expected to finance all activities to clear the snow off the roads without any difficulty.
Meanwhile, appeals have already been issued to the citizens of Hastings to help the administration get rid of the show as early as possible. Vehicles that are improperly parked should be removed and parked properly so that the equipment can work without any hassles. Further, obstructions should not be placed on the road to avoid damage to the objects and to the vehicles in charge of clearing the snow.
