In several places across the nation, the increase in precipitation has started to cause flooding. From northern Utah to the plains of the Mississippi river there are many levees and dams that are opening up the flood gates trying to relieve the pressure from the incredible amount of water that is rushing down stream.

In Utah, many organizations are working to create many different runoff pipelines as well as sand bagging in order to keep the water from going into homes and main streets. In the Mid-west, many large networks of commerce are threatened. The large suppliers of oil to many companies may have to shut down. In the past, when this area flooded, the flow of the Mississippi river actually changed. Weather Forecasting

For generations human beings have believed in predicting the weather beforehand so that many things which have a direct bearing on weather could be planned that much better. Weather forecasting is nothing but a science of predicting weather or the state of atmosphere over a wide locality or place.

Over centuries various methods have been used to predict weathers. While some have proved to be very effective others have failed in the objectives and hence have fallen by the wayside. In olden days some people used to predict weather by having a look at a particular plant, flower or fruit. There were also many people who watched the behavioral patterns of animals and then used to predict the weather based on such behaviors.

While these primitive methods were okay at that point in time, mostly they were incorrect and ineffective. So, man started realizing that the best way to predict weather is to gather information or engage in data collection regarding the current condition of atmospheric state. This data was later analyzed based on which weather forecasting was done. This proved to be much better and effective and thus started the modern day weather forecasting system, which is still in vogue.

While information gathering solved the problem of weather forecasting to some extent, it was still felt that these reports were often inaccurate and so they started using equipment and various instruments to measure vital parameters like pressure, temperature, moisture in the air, direction of wind flow, speed of wind, etc. These new technologies helped man a lot to better predict weather over reasonably long period of time. Further these instruments and their proper use resulted in much accurate forecast of weather. Some of the common instruments that were used and are still being used to measure weather forecasts are barometer, thermometer. These instruments helped in measuring temperature and other vital parameters.

Health Care Reform Continues To Remain A Confusing Topic In The State

In what can be termed as a failure on the part of the Obama administration, public continues to remain ambivalent in the State of Minnesota about the health care reform even nine months after the law was passed. This is an important development that shows that the government has not successfully sold the benefits and advantages that would accrue to people out of the public health care reform.

In a State where the divide between Democrats and Republicans is very deep and is constantly growing, it has led to the even more divisive politics being practiced. Republicans do not give up any opportunity to deride the policies of the Democrats but their failure to communicate to the public as well. On the other hand, Democrats find themselves being defensive in Minnesota despite the passing a law which, according to them, is a landmark legislation.

Close to forty percent of surveyed individuals residing in the state of Minnesota spoke in favor of the law while another forty percent spoke against the law. The rest were unable to make up their minds. The clean divide shows that the actual benefits of the law and health care reform have not been understood yet.

The government has woken up to the task and is releasing ads on the internet and in newspapers about the benefits and advantages. The fact that the law covers the doughnut hole for elders has been specifically emphasized. The general consensus is that these ads have come too little and too late.

Communication experts point out that ambivalence shows that Republican attempts to characterize the government law as a takeover of health care and death panels has connected better with the masses. It would take many more years before the public finally understands what the health care reform is all about and how it has benefited the country.

NW Minnesota To Face Blizzard Like Conditions Next Week

Residents of northwestern Minnesota are warned to be prepared for near blizzard like conditions in the coming week. The region which is often a target of storms during winter season is all set to witness two sets of storms occurring very close to each other in and around the region.

According to meteorologists, about four to six inches of snow is expected to fall in and around the region. This combined with the high wind speed and the falling temperatures is going to create near blizzard like conditions. Tourists visiting Minnesota to enjoy the cold are advised to be prepared for all contingencies to ensure that their travel plans are not affected.

As recent experiences have shown, blizzards can cause even the shutdown of the biggest and the most advanced airports in the world. Transportation through road can become very difficult and downright dangerous. In such a scenario, it is better to be prepared rather than end up stranded in the middle of a blizzard without any source of support or protection.

Residents are advised to ensure they have sufficient stock of heating oil. However, they are also advised not to hoard the heating oil as it is only going to push prices up and make it difficult for others to get access to the same. Sufficient quantities can be stocked as the blizzard is not expected to last for very long time. The subsequent reduction in temperature but improvement in conditions will make day to day life easier.

Tourists are advised to move to safer and better locations if they are expected to be traveling during the blizzard. While meteorologists reports are never completely accurate, it is better to take these reports seriously and play it safe rather than end up being stranded in the middle of the blizzard.
